Emerging fashion designers benefit from Blueprint & AFS

Just recently, Singapore has hosted two major fashion events which were aimed at catapulting homegrown talent to the international stage. Blueprint 2012, which showcased primarily up-and-coming Asian designers, in tandem with the Third Asia Fashion Summit (AFS), which brought together the global fashion industry’s thought-leaders such as Nicola Formichetti, served as platforms for local and regional fashion labels to go global.

Singapore company registration specialist Rikvin is confident that the events are testament to Singapore’s ambition to become Asia’s leading fashion hub for emerging fashion designers. Furthermore, as international and Asian fashion buyers look east for fresh blood, Rikvin has determined three critical factors that bode well for up-and-coming fashion designers who are considering Singapore company formation.

Both Blueprint and Asia Fashion Summit were organized by Asia Fashion Exchange (AFX), a private-public sector conglomerate aimed at positioning Singapore as Asia’s leading fashion hub. AFX consists of the Textile and Fashion Federation of Singapore (TaFf), International Enterprise (IE) Singapore, Singapore Tourism Board (STB), SPRING Singapore (SPRING) as well as Mercury Marketing and Communications.

Inside The Ballgowns British Glamour Exhibition

A spectacular exhibition of more than 60 ballgowns from 1950 to the present day will go on display at The Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) next May. Ballgowns: British Glamour Since 1950 will be the first exhibition in the newly renovated V&A Fashion Galleries and will feature beautiful ballgowns, red carpet evening gowns and catwalk showstoppers.

There is a strong British design tradition of creating sumptuous ballgowns, one that has been upheld in the late 20th and 21st centuries through the work of designers such as Vivienne Westwood, John Galliano and Alexander McQueen. The exhibition will cover more than 60 years of a tradition that continues to flourish.

Displayed over two floors, Ballgowns will show specially made designs for social events such as private parties, royal state occasions, debutante balls, opening nights and red carpet events. Tour de force eveningwear from the V&A’s vast collection by designers such as Norman Hartnell, Victor Stiebel, Zandra Rhodes, Catherine Walker, Jonathan Saunders and Hussein Chalayan will be on show, as well as dresses fresh from the catwalk shows of Alexander McQueen, Giles, Erdem, Roksanda Illincic, Mark Fast and Jenny Packham.

Innovative designer Gareth Pugh has created a stunning metallic leather dress especially for the exhibition.

‘Luxor’ by Johanna Johnson shows old Hollywood glamour

Johanna Johnson Summons presents her collection at Mercedes- Benz Fashion Week Australia. With individual pieces taking over 100 hours of work to complete, the romance and craftsmanship of yesteryear are at the heart of Johanna Johnson’s ‘Luxor’ collection. Art deco inspired design lines and silhouettes, transcend modern day glamour to the elegance of past imperial dynasties.

Stones, colour ways and designs in this collection are all custom designed by Johanna and crafted with exclusive Parisian lace, creating a collection of truly unique gowns. To maintain bygone glamour, hand selected ‘vintage finished’ sequins have been delicately sewn individually onto silk georgette, overlaid with additional hand beaded Swarovski embellishments.

Each gown has been customized with Egyptian inspired panelling throughout the collection. Heavy ‘hand dyed’ silks and flowing georgettes encase the hand beaded finishes and art deco accents.

The collection is styled with a selection of accessories and embellishments inspired by the elegance and drama of the Luxor temple; making it possible for clients to style their own individual look.

Geometric lines are complimented by delicate jewelled detailing and the softness of the fabrics. Plunging back lines are softened and...
